Alive Now: Discipleship

Alive Now: Discipleship

Alive Now is a devotional magazine that supports the spiritual lives of small groups as well as individuals. The magazine invites readers to enter an ever-deepening relationship with God, helps them reflect on contemporary issues from a faith perspective, and supports them in acting on these issues.

Each issue of this bimonthly, 48-page magazine focuses on a contemporary topic that impacts the faith life. Divided into sections that move readers through exploration and reflection on the theme, the magazine may be used weekly by individuals or members of small groups. The sections contain scripture, prayers, meditations, stories, poetry, reflection aids, photographs, and art. Seasonal material, both theological and liturgical, is appropriate.

Publication: September/October 2016
Due 1/4/16
Theme: Discipleship

Those who follow Jesus are his disciples. But, as German theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer wrote, discipleship is “costly.” Jesus himself said that those who want to be his disciples “must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow” him (Mark 8:34). We are also called to “make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19)—not an easy task. What are the marks of discipleship? How do we live out discipleship in daily life? What aspects of discipleship are challenging for you? What about discipleship brings joy? What steps and practices help us to grow and mature as disciples?
