On the Premises Mini-Contest #30: Twist
We’ve all read stories that end with what was once a clever innovation… the TWIST ENDING. (The detective tracking the mysterious killer IS the mysterious killer!!!!!) Twist endings are over 100 years old, and we’re tired of them. So we want you to write a twist BEGINNING.
Your challenge: Think of a great twist ending for a story. Then, in no more than 50 words, write the beginning of a short story that starts with that twist, instead of saving it for the end. Unlike most mini-contests, we’re not asking you to tell a complete story–just begin one.
Deadline: 11:59 PM Eastern US time, Friday, June 3, 2016.
Length: Maximum of 50 words.
Hyphenated Words: If the hyphenated word is generally considered a single word, it counts as one word. (Like “twenty-five” or “jack-o-lantern.”) Otherwise each part of the hyphenated word counts separately.
Prizes: $25 for first place, $15 for second, $10 for third. Honorable mentions get published but make no money.
One entry per author. There is no fee for entering this contest.
