Thriving Family: For Him

Posted by Sally Clark on Friday, June 13, 2014
Thriving Family Magazine

Theme: For Him

Topic: This “For Him” article should focus on how dads can set the tone for the Christmas season. If dads aren’t intentional about leading their families, the natural drift might be to follow culture’s definition of a “meaningful Christmas.” As Christian dads, we have an opportunity to redefine (or “rediscover”) what Christmas should be about for our families. We want to help dads lead their families to experience the “true meaning of Christmas.” Another way of looking at that might be to lead the family into an environment that allows them to connect and create meaningful memories. From our readers’ perspective, the felt need is to make Christmas a time of celebration instead of a time of stress.

Format: intro anecdote (not fictional, but the names can be changed), nut graf, then three or four practical tips (actions that readers can take — please don't include prayer, Bible study or "changing your attitude" as tips, which are antes for our readers)

Word Count: final article will be about 400 words
Rights: First publication rights
Payment: $140 on acceptance of the article
Due date for proposal/outline: June 17, 2014; manuscript due June 24, 2014
Audience: Married men with children in the home.
Byline: Yes—in print and online. Note: "For Him" is written for men, by men.

Submission: If interested, please respond  with a brief outline or summary of the article you propose to write, including a list of the practical tips you'd recommend, to Web.Features@fotf.org  and put "Attn: Troy – December 'For Him'" in the subject line.  Note: You must include the subject line as it appears here or the submission will not reach the appropriate editor for consideration.
