Thriving Family: Setting Boundaries with Toddlers
Early Years (ages 0-3)
Topic: Setting Boundaries With Toddlers
Rather than just saying “no” all the time, how can parents help their toddler understand not only what behaviors are unacceptable (“We don't hit the dog”), but also what alternate behaviors are appropriate (“But you may pet the dog gently”). How can parents be firm in enforcing rules but also redirect their toddler to what is ok? Article should focus on training toddlers to recognize and respect boundaries and rules (or start the process), rather than focusing on discipline when they don’t respect the rules or boundaries.
[Please note: We are looking for practical ideas parents can try. Please include only real-life anecdotes, nothing fictional. For any anecdotes that are not your own, we will need written permission from the source in order to publish.]
